The last person who should be fighting for Gerard or Christian’s honor was me. To be honest, I didn’t know why I even opened my mouth to begin with. It was more like uncontrollable word vomit. But what was said, was said and I couldn’t take it back now.

Strangely enough, in my business, I wasn’t the type to make enemies; I was practically a ghost killing my targets. My efficiency left me with enemies, but no one ever knew who to target. But since getting involved with Christian’s problems, I’d made enemies left and right. That spoke volumes. Mainly about how I should ditch Christian and leave him to solve his own problems. I had enough of my own. Unfortunately, I was in too deep now.

I entered the guest house and went straight to my room to feed Leonardo. “Hey there, little buddy,” I cooed as I grabbed his food and sprinkled some into his tank. “I don’t know what I got us into, but it looks like I won’t be getting out of it without some bloodshed.” Leonardo waddled slowly to his food. “If only you were really a ninja turtle … I could use your help right about now.” I tapped the glass tank with my finger. “Eat up, Leo. We gotta fuel up for what’s to come.”

Someone cleared their throat behind me, and I whirled around to see Christian leaning against my door frame. “Leo?” he asked. “As in Leonardo DiCaprio?”

I grimaced. “Ugh, no way.”

“You had a huge crush on him when we were kids.”

I rolled my eyes. “Do I look like a kid now? Get it together, Christian, or Leo will kick you out.”

He scoffed. “You have a really weird attachment to that turtle.”

“What can I say? He’s my partner in crime.” I lovingly patted the tank and went to sit on the edge of my bed. “Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be at the precinct?”

He shrugged. “There’s a stall on my case so I came home for a bit.”

“Weren’t you attacked yesterday?” I asked curiously.

He tilted his head. “Uh … how did you know?”

I smirked. “I have my sources. It happened right after I was attacked. Why do you think they’re focusing on me?”

Christian crossed his arms over his chest. “Well, a little birdy told me you had a bit of a confrontation with Dominic. Maybe he’s switched his aim.”

I rolled my eyes. “Oh, please. He’s not giving up on you any time soon. That guy is laser focused on becoming Alpha. Anyway, he just met me for the first time. I doubt it’s him.”

“True. I also haven’t given them many chances to attack, so there’s that.” He looked at me knowingly.

Yeah, yeah, I knew what he was hinting. Stop walking the streets and using public transportation. I had a bike; I might as well use it. That meant I had to make a pit stop at my place, since my bike was still parked in the garage.

He plucked the thought right out of my head.
